Kansas City, MO – Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr. (Jerry Maguire) and Vivica A. Fox (Kill Bill: Vol. 1) headline the urban thriller Break the Cycle, marking the screenwriting debut of former NBA player Jarnell Stokes. The ensemble cast also features Loretta Devine (Waiting to Exhale) and Kym Whitley (Next Friday). Filming concluded in Kansas City, Missouri last summer, under the auspices of Method Media.

The narrative, directed by Devonte Brown (with re-writes provided by producer JS Hampton), centers on two brothers whose lives are irrevocably altered by a tragic childhood event. Raised by their devoted yet strict grandmother, they embark on divergent paths amidst the challenging environment of Memphis. Jay, a talented basketball player with aspirations for the NBA, symbolizes hope and a potential escape from their circumstances. Conversely, his older brother Eddie becomes ensnared in street crime, casting a looming shadow over Jay’s ambitions.

The film's production was brought to Method Media in Kansas City through early development efforts led by K. Asher Levin and producer Sasha Yelaun. Once in production, the project was guided by Chris Knitter, whose hands-on producing oversight brought the budget into alignment and ensured the film was completed efficiently and on target. Executive producers include Rebellium Films, Safier Entertainment, and Fireheart Entertainment.

The production of Break the Cycle was made possible through financial incentives provided by Method Media, leveraging state and local film programs now available in Kansas City, Missouri. Chris Knitter, co-founder of Method Media, served as the Line Producer, while his partner, Jordon Rioux, was the Director of Photography. Their combined expertise was instrumental in bringing this story to the screen and under budget. Additionally, J.S. Hampton played a crucial role in re-writing the film, further enriching its narrative.

Gooding is represented by manager and attorney Peter Toumbekis; Fox by Sheila Legette Entertainment; Devine by Innovative Artists and Essential Talent Management; and Whitley by Innovative Artists.
